What resources do I get for the hourly rate on each instance type?
The hourly rate covers the Windows Server 2016 machine image plus vendor support. It runs on the EC2 instance type you pick, which sets your CPU, memory, and storage. Larger instance sizes provide more resources and carry a higher hourly software charge. AWS bills the underlying compute separately.
Am I charged the hourly rate when my instance is stopped or powered off?
The software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but those are separate AWS charges, not the software rate you see here.
Does the price change if I switch to a different instance type?
Yes. Each instance type has its own hourly software rate. If you move your workload to a different family or size, billing switches to that instance's rate for the hours it runs. The change is tied to the instance you launch, so you control it directly.
