You pay by the hour for the running virtual machine, with no upfront commitment. Each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type running the Basic Rocky 8 image. The choices span several instance families, including t2, t3, t3a burstable types and the m3, m4, m5, m5a, m5ad, m5d, m5dn, m5n general-purpose types. Within each family, sizes range from nano and micro up to 24xlarge and bare metal. Your rate scales with the compute, memory, and storage of the instance size you pick. You can stop the charge by stopping the instance.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover for this listing?
Each unit is one running AWS EC2 instance of the type you selected, preloaded with the Basic Rocky 8 image. You are billed per hour that instance runs. The instance type sets the CPU, memory, and storage you get, and that determines your hourly rate.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped?
The software charge meters running time only. When you stop the instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. Underlying AWS storage and other resource fees may still apply while the instance is stopped, but those are separate from this listing's software rate.
How does my bill change if I switch to a bigger instance size?
You pick one instance type per running machine. Larger sizes carry more CPU, memory, and storage, so their hourly rate is higher. Moving from, for example, a large size to a 24xlarge or bare metal size raises your per-hour charge. You only pay the rate for whatever size is running.
