See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen EC2 instance. The single software package installs PostgreSQL Server with the pgAdmin web management tool on Debian 12. Pricing is not tiered by features; every instance option delivers the same software. Instead, you pick from many EC2 instance types, and your hourly rate scales with the size and family of the instance you select. Smaller instances such as t3 and t2 sizes cost less per hour, while larger compute, memory, storage, and GPU families cost more. You can match the instance to your workload needs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what runs on the instance?
Each unit is one hour of the software running on your chosen EC2 instance. You get PostgreSQL Server with the pgAdmin web management tool installed on Debian 12. The hourly rate reflects the instance type you select, not a per-user or per-database charge.
Am I charged the software rate when my instance is stopped?
The hourly software charge applies only while the instance runs. When you stop the instance, the software fee stops accruing. Underlying AWS storage costs for the volume may still apply while stopped. Restarting the instance resumes the hourly software charge.
What determines my hourly cost when I pick a different instance type?
Your hourly rate scales with the instance family and size you select. The software itself is identical across all options. Smaller sizes such as t3 and t2 cost less per hour. Larger compute, memory, storage, and GPU families cost more per hour.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
