This listing is free software; there is no charge for the Passbolt Community Edition itself. Instead, you pick one Amazon EC2 instance type to run it on, and you pay AWS for that compute by the hour. The many dimensions are not feature tiers. Each one is a different EC2 instance size, ranging from small shared instances to large memory-, compute-, storage-, and GPU-focused types, plus bare-metal options. Your cost scales with the instance you choose: larger instances carry higher hourly rates. Select the size that matches your expected user load and performance needs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one instance-type dimension actually give me, and how am I charged for it?
Each dimension is a different Amazon EC2 instance size. The software itself is free, so you pay AWS only for the compute hours the chosen instance runs. You select one instance type that fits your expected user load, then AWS meters its running hours.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or powered off?
The software carries no charge at all. When the instance is fully stopped, you stop paying AWS compute-hour charges for it. You may still incur AWS storage fees for attached volumes, since those persist while the instance is off. Compute is metered on running time only.
Does running Passbolt Community Edition on a larger instance unlock extra features?
No. The instance types are not feature tiers. Community Edition includes the same open-source features regardless of instance size, such as password management, shared folders, user and group management, and browser extensions. A larger instance only provides more compute capacity for higher user loads.

Passbolt Makes Secure Team Password Sharing Simple and Centralized

What do you like best about the product?
What I like most about Passbolt is its secure password sharing and team collaboration capabilities. Managing credentials across multiple applications, environments, and team members can be challenging, and Passbolt provides a centralized and secure way to handle that. Secure password sharing between team members without exposing credentials through chat or email. Role-based access control helps manage who can view or update credentials. Browser extension makes credential management quick and convenient. Password organization through folders and groups keeps access structured. Audit and activity tracking provide better visibility into credential usage. The most valuable feature is secure team sharing. In QA, development, and operations workflows, multiple people often need access to shared accounts and environments. Passbolt allows us to manage those credentials securely while reducing the risk associated with storing passwords in spreadsheets, documents, or messaging platforms. The biggest benefit is improved security and collaboration. Teams can access the credentials they need while maintaining proper access controls and reducing operational risk.
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest challenge is usability for first-time users. Once the system is configured and teams are familiar with the workflow, it works well, but the onboarding experience could be smoother and more intuitive. These are relatively minor concerns. The security, access control, and secure password-sharing capabilities provide significant value, especially for teams that need to manage credentials across multiple environments and applications.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Passbolt solves the problem of securely storing, managing, and sharing credentials across teams. Before using a dedicated password manager, credentials were often shared through spreadsheets, emails, or chat applications, which created security and access-control challenges. Centralizes password management in a secure location. Eliminates insecure methods of sharing credentials. Provides controlled access to passwords based on user roles and permissions. Makes onboarding and offboarding team members much easier. Improves visibility into who has access to critical accounts and environments. In my day-to-day work, we manage credentials for multiple applications, databases, testing environments, and cloud services. Passbolt ensures that team members can access the credentials they need without exposing sensitive information unnecessarily. The biggest benefit is improved security and operational efficiency. Instead of searching for credentials or requesting access repeatedly, authorized users can securely access shared passwords when needed, while maintaining proper governance and auditability.
