You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen Amazon EC2 instance. Pricing is not tiered by feature set. Instead, you pick from a wide range of EC2 instance types, and your hourly rate follows the size and family of that instance. Smaller instances like t3.nano or t2.micro cost less per hour, while larger compute, memory, storage, or GPU instances such as x1.32xlarge or the bare-metal options carry higher hourly rates. The same software stack runs across every instance. You scale cost by matching the instance to your workload needs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What software comes bundled in the hourly rate across every instance type?
Each instance runs XAMPP on Windows Server 2019. That stack includes the Apache web server, MariaDB, MySQL, PHP, Perl, phpMyAdmin, Apache Tomcat, OpenSSL, and the Filezilla FTP server. The same pre-configured software runs on every instance type. Your hourly rate covers the running software plus the underlying instance.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Stopped instances may still incur separate AWS storage fees for attached volumes. To halt all software charges, stop the instance rather than leaving it idle and running.
Does choosing a larger instance unlock extra features or only more capacity?
You get more capacity, not more features. Larger compute, memory, storage, or GPU instances give you more processing power, RAM, disk, or graphics resources. The XAMPP software stack stays identical across all instance types. You pick the instance that fits your workload size, and the hourly rate follows that choice.
