Am I charged when my instance is stopped or powered off?
The software rate meters running time per instance-hour, so a fully stopped instance stops accruing the hourly software charge. Underlying AWS storage for the stopped instance may still bill separately. To pause software charges, stop the EC2 instance rather than leaving it idle but running.
How do the software charge and the AWS infrastructure charge combine on my bill?
Two charges apply at the same time on the same instance-hour. The software carries one hourly rate for the Puppet Bolt image. AWS bills its own infrastructure fee for the chosen instance size plus storage and data transfer. Both appear together and add up for each hour the instance runs.
