Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the Base NixOS 23.05 machine image, billed per running EC2 instance. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the instance size and family you launch. General-purpose, compute, memory, storage, accelerated, and high-memory instance families are all covered. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates than smaller ones in the same family. You are not locked into one size. You can pick the instance type that fits your workload and scale by changing types or running more instances.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each dimension maps to one running EC2 instance of that specific type. You pay the hourly rate for every hour the instance runs. The rate reflects that instance type's size and family. Running two instances of the same type bills two hourly rates.
The hourly software rate applies only while the instance runs. Stopped instances do not accrue software charges. You may still pay underlying AWS fees for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but the software licence meters running time only.
You get a pre-configured NixOS machine image with optional XRDP and KDE Plasma desktop access and rollback to prior system states. The software runs on any listed instance type. Your rate depends only on the instance type you launch, not the workload you run.
