You pay by the hour for the Swift Programming Language software running on an Amazon Linux 2 machine image, with support included. Billing is usage-based, so charges accrue only while an instance runs. The many line items are not tiers or plans. Each one maps to a specific EC2 instance type, covering general purpose, compute, memory, storage, and accelerated computing families across a range of sizes. Your hourly cost scales with the instance you select: larger instances with more CPU, memory, or GPU capacity carry higher rates. You choose the instance that fits your workload.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing cover for a given instance type?
One hour equals one running instance of that EC2 type. Charges accrue per instance-hour while the instance runs. Each instance type has its own hourly rate tied to its CPU, memory, storage, and GPU capacity. Running multiple instances multiplies the charge by the number of active instances.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or paused?
The software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. Note that AWS may still bill underlying storage for a stopped instance, but that is separate from this listing's per-hour software charge.
Does moving to a larger instance change my rate automatically?
Yes. Your hourly rate follows the instance type you launch. If you switch to an instance with more CPU, memory, or GPU capacity, the higher rate applies for those hours. There is no upgrade step beyond selecting a different instance type when you launch.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
