Implementing PCI DSS benchmarks can help organizations improve their security posture and protect against advanced and persistent threats.
The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) benchmarks are a set of security standards designed to ensure that all companies that process, store, or transmit credit card information maintain a secure environment.
PCI DSS is crucial for any organization involved in handling payment card transactions, including retailers, e-commerce businesses, financial institutions, and service providers. Beyond compliance, PCI DSS serves as a valuable guide for implementing best practices in cybersecurity, helping organizations protect not only payment data but also other sensitive information within their IT environments
Key features:
Compliance and Trust: Adhering to PCI DSS benchmarks not only helps organizations meet regulatory requirements but also fosters trust among customers and partners. Demonstrating PCI DSS compliance signals a commitment to security, which can enhance the reputation and credibility of a business in the eyes of consumers and stakeholders.
Enhanced Security Posture: PCI DSS provides a robust framework for identifying and mitigating security risks. By following these guidelines, organizations can reduce vulnerabilities and strengthen their overall security posture, making it more difficult for attackers to compromise sensitive payment data. This proactive approach to security helps prevent costly data breaches and the associated legal and financial repercussions

You pay by the hour for this hardened Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 image, billed on top of your AWS compute costs. Pricing is not tiered by features. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, from small general-purpose sizes to large compute, memory, storage, and GPU instances. The hourly software rate you pay tracks the instance you select, so it scales with the size and capability of the underlying hardware. Every instance runs the same PCI DSS aligned hardened image. You choose the instance that fits your workload and pay only for the hours you run.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what counts toward the charge?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you select, billed per hour. The software charge tracks the instance you launch. It applies for every hour that instance runs, alongside the underlying AWS compute cost for the same hardware.
Am I charged the software fee when my instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software charge applies while the instance runs. A stopped instance stops accruing the software fee. You may still pay AWS for attached storage on a stopped instance, but the hardened image meters running time only.
Does the hardened image change if I pick a bigger instance type?
No. Every instance type runs the same PCI DSS aligned Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 image. Only the hourly rate changes, tracking the instance you choose. Larger compute, memory, storage, or GPU instances carry a different rate, but the security configuration stays identical.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
