Overview
We examine the key areas according to the WAF’s 6 pillars to guide the design and implementation of systems in the cloud, ensuring that your solutions are Well-Architected.
-
Operational Excellence Focuses on running and monitoring systems, and continually improving processes and procedures. Key Topics: Automating changes, responding to events, and defining standards to manage daily operations.
-
Security Focuses on protecting information and systems. Key Topics: Confidentiality and integrity of data, managing user permissions, and establishing controls to detect security events.
-
Reliability Focuses on workloads performing their intended functions and how to recover quickly from failure to meet demands. Key Topics: Distributed system design, recovery planning, and adapting to changing requirements.
-
Performance Efficiency Focuses on structured and streamlined allocation of IT and computing resources. Key Topics: Selecting resource types and sizes optimized for workload requirements, monitoring performance, and maintaining efficiency as business needs evolve
-
Cost Optimization Focuses on avoiding unnecessary costs. Key Topics: Understanding spending over time and controlling fund allocation, selecting resources of the right type and quantity, and scaling to meet business needs without overspending.
-
Sustainability Focuses on minimizing the environmental impacts of running cloud workloads. Key Topics: Understanding impact and maximizing utilization to minimize required resources and reduce downstream impacts.
How we deliver To ensure high quality, we follow best practices throughout the delivery process, while customizing to meet the customer's goals and capacity. The delivery is divided into three main phases: Prepare, Review, and Improve.
-
Prepare: This phase is dedicated to preparation and is typically led by a Solutions Architect (Experis). In a preparation meeting, we gather all necessary information, get to know the customer better, and lay the groundwork for the upcoming review.
-
Review: In the Review phase, we delve deeper into the selected workload for a thorough evaluation. The goal is to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. The Solutions Architect (Experis) leads this phase, often accompanied by a colleague taking notes. The review focuses on selected lenses and highlighted pillars, guided by the prioritized questions from the Well-Architected Framework tool.
-
Improve: After the review, the Solutions Architect presents findings and recommendations to the customer following Well-Architected Review report. With all the information gathered and analyzed, we prioritize issues together with the customer and move to the Improvement phase. Here, we formulate strategies that allow the customer to leverage their strengths and address their identified weaknesses.
