Overview
OneData Software provides a solution for automating responses in IoT systems by building workflows that connect event detection, serverless processing, orchestration, and notifications. Using AWS services such as Events / IoT Events, Lambda, Step Functions, and SNS, they enable automated, real-time responses to device telemetry or sensor-based thresholds. It helps clients maintain uptime, reduce manual monitoring burden, and improve operational resiliency.
Core Capabilities
1. Event Detection o Device telemetry or rules/conditions monitor incoming data for specific conditions. o AWS Events or IoT Events service is used to detect these situations automatically.
2. Serverless Response Logic (Lambda) o When an event trigger is detected, AWS Lambda functions execute business logic: e.g. fetch device metadata, compute adjusted thresholds, decide if alert is needed, perform remedial action like restarting a process or toggling a device setting. o Lambda keeps infrastructure overhead low and scales with event volume.
3. Orchestration via Step Functions o For more complex workflows, OneData uses AWS Step Functions to chain together multiple steps: e.g. event detection → decision branching → update configuration → send alert → log details. o Ensures reliability, error handling, retries, parallel tasks, rollbacks, etc.
4. Notifications & Alerts (SNS + Other Channels) o Once automated logic decides an alert or action is required, they use Amazon SNS (Simple Notification Service) to deliver notifications (emails, SMS, push notifications), or invoke downstream services. o This ensures that human operators or downstream systems are informed promptly.
5. Feedback, Logging, & Monitoring o All workflow executions are logged; Step Functions & Lambda logs are monitored / traced. o Metrics on event detection rates, failed executions, response latencies are captured. o Tools / dashboards present the status, enabling fine-tuning of rules & workflows.
6. Scalability, Reliability & Security o The architecture is serverless, which scales. o Secure authentication for devices, secure invocation of Lambda (via IAM), encryption of data in transit / at rest, permissions needed for thresholding logic etc. o Ensures that automated responses don't violate compliance or expose security risks.
Use Cases • Automatic alerting when sensors report anomaly (e.g. overheating machinery) → notify maintenance team • Device offline detection → automated retry or failover logic • Environmental thresholds (e.g. humidity, pressure) violation → trigger safety mechanisms • Predictive maintenance workflows: detection → schedule inspection → update maintenance logs
Benefits • Faster response to problems, reducing downtime and damage • Reduced operational burden: fewer manual checks, fewer false negatives • Consistency in response workflows — less human error • Better visibility and auditing of response actions • Cost savings, improved reliability
