You pay for the software licence plus the underlying Amazon EC2 instance, billed per running hour. The rate covers the identity and single sign-on server running on that instance. Larger sizes carry a proportionally different rate because they provide more vCPU and memory for heavier authentication loads.
Software charges accrue only while the instance runs. A fully stopped instance stops the hourly software meter. You may still owe underlying AWS storage fees for the attached disk during a stopped state, but the licence itself meters running hours only.
No. Billing follows the instance size and running hours, not the number of users, groups, or connected applications. You can add authentication protocols and integrations without changing your hourly rate. To handle more load, you move to a size with more vCPU and memory.
