You pay by the hour for a hardened AlmaLinux 9 image running on ARM-based EC2 instances. Pricing is not tiered. Instead, each rate maps to a specific instance type. The type you pick sets your hourly software rate. Options span general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and bare-metal families. Sizes run from small (nano, micro, medium, large) up to very large (48xlarge) and metal builds. You add AWS infrastructure charges separately. Larger instances carry more CPU and memory, so their hourly rates rise accordingly. Choose the family and size that fit your workload's compute and memory needs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover for a given instance type?
One unit is one running ARM-based EC2 instance of that type for one hour. The hourly rate covers only the hardened AlmaLinux 9 software license. You count each running instance separately. A stopped instance stops accruing this software charge. AWS infrastructure fees are billed apart from the software rate.
Am I charged the software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running time only. A stopped instance accrues no hourly software charge. When you start it again, metering resumes for that instance type's rate. Note that stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for attached volumes, which are separate from this software license.
Why do rates differ across instance families like compute, memory, storage, and bare metal?
Each family targets a different workload. Compute-optimized types favor CPU-heavy tasks. Memory-optimized types carry more RAM. Storage-optimized types add local disk. Bare-metal builds give direct hardware access. Larger sizes within a family add CPU and memory. The hourly software rate maps to the specific type you launch.
