Burstable general-purpose types (t2, t3, t3a) span from t3.nano up to larger 2xlarge sizes for lighter or variable workloads. Compute-optimized types (c1, c3, c4, c5) suit processing-heavy needs. Memory-optimized types (r3, r5, r5d) fit memory-intensive workloads, and trn1/trn1n serve high-scale needs. Larger instances cost more per hour. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
One unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you select, billed per hour. The stack includes Elasticsearch, Kibana, Filebeat, and Logstash pre-installed on that single instance. You pay for each hour the instance runs, so two instances running at once bill two hourly rates.
Software charges meter running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. Underlying AWS storage or other resources tied to the instance may still bill separately. When you start the instance again, hourly software charges resume automatically.
You launch a new instance of the type you need, since pricing is set per instance type. Larger types in the same or different family cost more per hour. There are no tiers to upgrade; you simply select the type that fits your workload and pay its hourly rate.
