You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance you choose to run this Gitea stack. Pricing scales with instance size and family, not by features. The t3 options (t3.xlarge, t3.2xlarge) are burstable general-purpose instances. The r5 family (r5.xlarge through r5.24xlarge) offers memory-focused capacity that grows with each larger size. The gr6 options (gr6.4xlarge, gr6.8xlarge) provide another sizing choice. Every instance runs the same pre-configured software; you select the size that fits your workload. Hourly billing means you pay only for the time each instance runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
You are billed for each hour an EC2 instance runs the Gitea stack. The instance type you pick — such as t3.xlarge or r5.4xlarge — sets the compute and memory you get. Partial hours count toward the running time. You pay for one instance per hour it stays active.
Software charges accrue only while an instance runs. A fully stopped instance does not add software charges for that time. AWS may still bill separately for attached storage and other resources while stopped. Restarting the instance resumes hourly software charges.
Every instance type runs the same pre-configured software. To add capacity, you switch to a larger type, such as moving from r5.2xlarge to r5.8xlarge. Your hourly rate then follows the new instance size. The change is manual — you select the type that fits your needs.
