Overview
WordPress on Windows Server 2022 with XAMPP
WordPress comes pre-installed and pre-configured on Windows Server 2022 with the complete XAMPP stack - Apache, MySQL, PHP, phpMyAdmin, and FileZilla FTP Server. This AMI is built and maintained by Cloud Infrastructure Services and is ready to launch on AWS. Build, host, and manage WordPress websites, blogs, e-commerce stores, and web applications without manual installation or configuration.
Quick-Start Deployment
- Launch the AMI from AWS Marketplace on your chosen EC2 instance
- Connect to the instance via Remote Desktop (RDP) on port 3389
- Open the XAMPP Control Panel from the desktop to verify all services are running
- Create a local database and user for the WordPress installation
- Access your WordPress site at http://localhost
- Complete the WordPress setup wizard and set your admin credentials
Most users have a fully operational WordPress site within minutes of launching the instance. Full setup instructions are in our additional resources section below.
Why Choose a Windows-Based WordPress Stack?
Unlike Linux-based AMIs that require CLI administration, this image provides a familiar Windows Server 2022 desktop environment with the XAMPP graphical control panel. This makes it ideal for:
- Windows-centric IT teams who manage infrastructure via RDP and prefer GUI-based tools
- Web agencies hosting multiple client WordPress sites from a single Windows server
- Developers who work in Windows environments and want a local-style stack on AWS
- Organizations already running Windows Server infrastructure who want consistency
Included Components
- WordPress - the world's leading open-source CMS, pre-installed and ready to configure
- Apache Web Server - fast, reliable, industry-standard HTTP server
- MySQL Server - robust relational database for site content and applications
- PHP - full runtime pre-configured for WordPress
- phpMyAdmin - manage MySQL databases through an intuitive web interface
- FileZilla FTP Server - upload and manage website files over FTP
- Apache Tomcat - run Java-based web applications alongside WordPress
- XAMPP Control Panel - start, stop, and monitor all services from one interface
- MySQL Command Line (CLI) - direct database access from the terminal
Use Cases
- Multi-site agency hosting: A web agency managing 10-20 client WordPress sites can deploy this single AMI, create separate databases in phpMyAdmin for each client, and manage all sites from the XAMPP panel - eliminating the need for separate hosting accounts per client.
- Business websites and landing pages: Launch a professional company site quickly
- E-commerce stores: Build online shops with WooCommerce and other plugins
- Development and staging: Use as a staging server - clone production sites, test plugin updates, then push changes to production
- Blogs and publishing: Create content-rich blogs and news sites
- Membership and community sites: Run forums, learning platforms, and online communities
Security Considerations
Buyers should take the following steps after launching:
- Change all default credentials immediately upon first login
- Configure Windows Firewall rules to restrict access to required ports only (80, 443, 3389, and 21 if using FTP)
- Ensure MySQL is bound to localhost unless remote database access is explicitly required
- Enable FTPS or use SFTP instead of plain FTP for file transfers
- Apply Windows Server updates and keep WordPress, plugins, and themes current
- Review the XAMPP security console for additional hardening recommendations
Requirements
Open the following ports in your EC2 Security Group:
- Port 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS) for web traffic
- Port 3389 (RDP) for remote desktop administration
- Port 21 (FTP) only if FileZilla FTP access is needed
Refer to the getting-started guide for detailed configuration and optimization instructions.

Highlights
- Windows GUI-managed WordPress stack - unlike CLI-only Linux AMIs, this image provides the full XAMPP graphical control panel on Windows Server 2022. Manage Apache, MySQL, PHP, phpMyAdmin, FileZilla FTP, and Tomcat from a single desktop interface via RDP. Ideal for IT teams and agencies already working in Windows environments who prefer visual administration over command-line configuration.
- Host unlimited websites and databases from one server. Deploy multiple WordPress sites, web applications, and MySQL databases on a single instance. Create separate databases per client in phpMyAdmin, upload files via FileZilla FTP, and share sites internally over your network or publicly over the internet - all without provisioning additional servers.
- Deploy and serve WordPress in minutes, not hours. Skip manual installation of Apache, MySQL, PHP, and WordPress. Launch the AMI, connect via RDP, and access your WordPress setup wizard immediately. Built for business sites, e-commerce stores, blogs, dev/staging environments, and multi-site agency hosting on scalable AWS infrastructure.
