Overview
AWS Nitro Enclaves offer a hardened, isolated, and highly constrained environment. Enclaves have no persistent storage, no interactive access, and no external networking, effectively shielding workloads from cloud providers and internal IT resources.
Polaris manages all encryption processes within the enclave using ephemeral private keys. This approach ensures that communication remains secure, even from internal risks such as compromised load balancers. Since encryption is handled transparently within the TEE, no modifications to existing workloads are necessary.
Additionally, the Polaris SDK facilitates the implementation of encrypted communication on other servers or devices, extending the security benefits beyond the enclave.
Highlights
- End-to-End Data Encryption: Polaris ensures that sensitive data remains encrypted at all stages - at rest, in transit, and during processing - within AWS Nitro Enclaves, providing robust protection against external and internal threats.
- Seamless Integration: Designed for stateless Docker workloads, Polaris operates transparently within the Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), requiring no modifications to existing applications or workflows.
- Ephemeral Key Management: Utilizes ephemeral private keys managed within the TEE, ensuring that encryption keys are never exposed externally, enhancing overall communication security.

Polaris Quickstart Deployment
This CloudFormation template provisions the complete Polaris environment in a new AWS VPC, including public subnets, security groups, an internet-facing Application Load Balancer, and an EC2 instance with Nitro Enclaves support. The stack is designed for users who want to quickly deploy Polaris with public API access, without needing to pre-configure any networking resources. All networking, security, and compute resources are created automatically. After deployment, the Polaris API will be accessible from the internet via the provided load balancer endpoint.
CloudFormation Template (CFT)
AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."
