This API uses one pricing dimension. You pay per request made to the API. Billing is usage-based, so your cost scales directly with the number of API calls you send. There are no upfront costs, monthly fees, or long-term contracts. Charges appear as line items on your existing AWS bill, so you do not set up a separate billing account. Each call to the rate, convert, or historical-rate functions counts as one billable request.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What counts as one billable request to the API?
Each call to the rate, convert, or historical-rate endpoints counts as one request. The rate endpoint returns exchange rates for a base currency. The convert endpoint changes an amount between two currencies. The historical-rate endpoint returns an end-of-day rate for a past date. Each call bills the same way.
Am I charged for browsing the site or generating traffic without API calls?
No. Charges apply only when you send a request to the API to receive exchange rate data. Clicks and general traffic do not count as billable requests. Your cost scales only with the number of API calls you make.
Is there a limit on how many requests I can send?
You can send up to 100 requests per second. Each request bills the same regardless of volume. There are no monthly minimums or commitments, so your cost rises and falls directly with the number of calls you make.
