Overview
Well-Architected Modernisation Service
Zen's AWS Well-Architected Modernisation Service helps organisations overcome inertia and actively modernise their workloads on AWS. In a typical 4-6 week engagement, our highly certified team delivers a clear roadmap for modernisation, identifying priority workloads and fastest return on investment.
Proven Track Record
Zen Internet is an AWS Advanced Services Partner with real-world modernisation experience. Our work with Merlin Cycles demonstrates how we help organisations migrate and modernise their infrastructure on AWS, delivering measurable business outcomes through cloud native services.
Engagement Phases and Timeline
Our structured 4-6 week engagement follows a clear methodology:
- Phase 1 - Discovery and Scoping (Week 1): Initial discovery call to understand your current environment, identify stakeholders, and define engagement scope
- Phase 2 - Workshop (Weeks 2-3): Collaborative workshop with your technical and business stakeholders to assess workloads, priorities, and modernisation opportunities
- Phase 3 - Architecture and Reporting (Weeks 3-5): Production of a comprehensive high-level design report aligned to the six Well-Architected Framework pillars
- Phase 4 - Roadmap Delivery (Week 5-6): Final presentation of modernisation roadmap with prioritised recommendations and implementation estimates
What You Receive
Based on the workshop findings, we produce a comprehensive high-level design report which outlines the proposed AWS architecture, leveraging all six pillars of the Well-Architected Framework (Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency, Cost Optimisation, and Sustainability). The report includes:
- Explanation of selected AWS services and rationale
- Illustration of the cloud value framework in the context of your workload
- Estimation of future operating costs associated with the proposed architecture
- Time and cost estimate for Zen to produce a detailed design and implement the infrastructure
- Prioritised modernisation roadmap with clear next steps
Example Use Case
A retail organisation running a legacy monolithic e-commerce platform on self-managed infrastructure engages Zen to modernise. Through our workshop process, we identify opportunities to decompose the application into containerised microservices on Amazon ECS, re-platform the database to Amazon Aurora, and implement auto-scaling to handle seasonal demand. The resulting roadmap provides a phased approach that minimises disruption while delivering rapid performance and cost improvements.
Scope and Prerequisites
To get the most from this engagement, customers should have:
- An existing AWS account (or willingness to create one)
- At least one identified workload or application for modernisation assessment
- Availability of key stakeholders (e.g., CTO, platform engineers, application owners) for the workshop
- Executive sponsorship for the modernisation initiative
The engagement scope covers high-level architecture design and roadmap creation. Detailed design and hands-on implementation are available as follow-on engagements.
Security and Compliance
Zen Internet holds ISO 27001 certification. All customer data and architecture documentation shared during the engagement is handled in accordance with our certified information security management practices. The architecture recommendations address encryption, IAM best practices, and network isolation aligned to the Well-Architected Security pillar.
