You get a single virtual machine running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with the Yarn package manager and Node.js runtime preinstalled. You have administrative access to the operating system and development tools. The instance type you pick sets the compute, memory, and processing capacity of that machine.
Software charges accrue per hour only while the instance runs. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software fees. Underlying AWS storage or other resource fees may still apply while the instance exists in a stopped state, but the hourly software meter counts running time only.
You scale vertically by resizing to a different cloud instance type. You stop the instance, select a instance type with more compute or memory, and restart. Billing then follows the new instance type's hourly rate. You run one instance type at a time, so charges reflect whichever size is active.
