You get the Oracle Database Client 21c image, version 21.3.0.0, installed at /u01. It includes SQL*Plus, Oracle Net, a dedicated oracle OS user, AWS CLI v2, the Systems Manager Agent, and the CloudWatch Agent. It is client software for connecting to remote databases, not a running database server.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped?
The software charge meters running instance-hours. A stopped instance does not accrue hourly software charges. You may still pay underlying AWS fees for attached storage while the instance is stopped. The rate resumes only when you start the instance again.
Does choosing a larger instance change what software or support I receive?
No. Every instance type runs the same Oracle Database Client 21c image and includes the same 24/7 support with a 24-hour response SLA. Larger instances give more compute, memory, or storage, and carry higher hourly rates. The vendor recommends t3.small or larger; minimum is 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM, 20 GB disk.
