What does one hourly unit cover, and what is included in the software charge?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you pick, billed per hour. The charge covers this hardened Oracle 8 image, which is tested against standard security frameworks. AWS infrastructure charges for compute, storage, and data transfer apply separately on top of the software rate.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
The software rate meters running instance-hours only. A fully stopped or powered-off instance stops accruing software charges. Underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes may still apply while the instance is stopped, but those are separate from the per-hour software charge.
What drives my cost when I move to a larger instance type?
