Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for a preconfigured Apache Tomcat 11 image running on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. Pricing is not tiered by features. Instead, you pick one EC2 instance type, and the hourly software rate follows the compute size you choose. Smaller shared-CPU types like t2 and t3 sit at the low end. General-purpose families such as m4, m5, m6, and m7 scale up through larger sizes, ending at metal instances. The bigger the instance, the higher the hourly rate. You run only what you use, with no term commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each instance type maps to a fixed compute size set by AWS, defining the vCPU count and memory. Shared-CPU t2 and t3 types provide smaller resources. The m-family types (m4, m5, m6, m7) offer larger fixed sizes up to bare-metal. You pick one type per running instance.
The software rate meters running instance-hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still pay separate AWS fees for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but the Apache Tomcat 11 software rate applies only while the instance runs.
The hourly software rate follows the compute size you select. Moving to a larger instance type raises the hourly rate; moving to a smaller one lowers it. Only the type you currently run is billed, so the change takes effect once you launch the new size.

You can also access your instance via SSH using the username 'ubuntu' and your Amazon private key.
