Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing actually cover for a given instance type?
Each dimension bills the software running on one EC2 instance of that exact size for one running hour. The instance combines a set amount of CPU, memory, and storage. You pay the software rate for every hour that instance runs, regardless of how much of its capacity you use.
Am I charged the software fee when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing the hourly software charge. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but that is a separate AWS infrastructure fee, not the software license charge.
Do larger instance types add software features, or only more capacity?
The Tomcat software function stays the same across every instance type. Larger types give you more CPU, memory, storage, or GPU hardware, not extra software capabilities. The higher hourly rate on bigger instances reflects that added compute capacity, letting you match the instance to your workload size.
