Each dimension is a running EC2 instance loaded with the Ubuntu Server 24.04 image. One hourly charge covers one running instance of that size. The instance type sets the CPU, memory, and disk. You connect over SSH using a key pair and log in as the ubuntu user.
Software charges meter running time only. A stopped or fully powered-off instance stops accruing the hourly software fee. Underlying AWS storage for the attached volume may still incur separate AWS charges while the instance is stopped. You resume the hourly software rate when you start the instance again.
Yes. Your hourly rate follows the instance type you run at any moment. Moving from a burstable t-family size to a general-purpose m-family size, or to a bare-metal option, changes the rate. Billing applies per running instance, so running several instances adds each one's hourly charge together.
