The m5 sizes (large, xlarge, 2xlarge) are general-purpose compute instances. The r4 sizes (large, xlarge, 2xlarge) are memory-focused instances. Choose r4 when your natural language tasks need more memory per core. Choose m5 for balanced compute and memory. Both are billed per hour.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or not processing text?
You are billed per hour only while the instance runs. Stopped instances do not accrue software charges. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for stored data on stopped instances. The software meter counts running time, not idle standby.
What natural language tasks does the Accelerator perform for the hourly charge?
The Accelerator handles entity detection, key phrase extraction, language identification, sentiment analysis, and part-of-speech tagging. You pass text in and get structured results back. All tasks run on the same instance you select, and cost depends on the instance size and hours used.
