Smaller general-purpose instances like t3 and m-series bill at lower hourly rates. Larger compute-, memory-, storage-, and GPU-optimized instances, plus bare-metal and high-memory sizes, bill higher. You only pay for the hours each instance runs. There is no upfront commitment; costs rise or fall with the size and number of instances you launch.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each dimension maps to one AWS EC2 instance type running the STIG-hardened CentOS 10 image. You launch that instance size and pay the listed software rate per running hour. The instance type sets the CPU, memory, storage, and any accelerator capacity you get. One dimension equals one instance size.
The software rate meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing the hourly software charge. Underlying AWS costs, such as storage for the volume, may still apply while the instance is stopped. You pay the software rate again once you restart the instance.
Each running instance bills independently at the rate for its size. Running more instances adds each one's hourly rate to your bill. Switching to a different instance type changes the rate to that size's listed price. There is no upfront commitment, so costs rise or fall with what you run.

Usage instructions
Quick Start
Launch your CentOS 10 instance and connect using SSH on port 22. The default username is ec2-user.
Example: ssh -i /path/to/your-key.pem ec2-user@<public-ip-address>

If you connect over SSH, configure your security group to allow access only from your trusted IP address.
This image has been fully hardened with the controls applied and validated before release. No additional hardening steps are required after launch.
Once connected, you can immediately begin installing and running your applications on a secure, compliant VM.
