This listing is free software billed per hour of use. You pay no charge for the load balancer itself. Your only cost comes from the AWS EC2 instance you run it on. Each dimension represents a different EC2 instance type, grouped into general-purpose families (t3, m5, m6i) and compute-optimized families (c5, c6i, c6id, c6in, hpc6id). Within each family, sizes range from small (nano, micro, large) up to very large (32xlarge). Larger instances carry higher hourly rates because they provide more CPU, memory, and network capacity. You pick the size that matches your traffic needs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what am I actually paying for?
Each dimension is an AWS EC2 instance type running the load balancer. The software itself is free, so you pay only the AWS charge for the running instance. You are billed per hour that the chosen instance runs, based on its CPU, memory, and network capacity.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
Hourly charges apply only while the EC2 instance runs. A fully stopped instance stops accruing hourly compute charges. Attached storage and other AWS resources may still incur separate AWS fees. The load balancer software adds no charge in any state, since it is free.
How do I move to a larger instance if my traffic grows?
Each instance type is a separate dimension. To scale, you launch a larger instance type and shift traffic to it, then stop the smaller one. You pay the hourly rate of whichever instance is running. The software license carries over at no cost, since it is free.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
