See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the software running on a single Ubuntu 24.04 virtual machine. Pricing is tied to the AWS EC2 instance type you pick, so each dimension maps to a different instance size. General-purpose types (t2, t3, m3, m4, m5), memory-optimized types (r3, r4, r5), and compute-optimized types (c3, c4, c5) are available. Larger or more powerful instances carry higher hourly rates. You choose one instance type based on your workload, and billing accrues only while it runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually receive when I select one of these hourly instance types?
Each instance type runs a single virtual machine with the Dolphin file manager preinstalled on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. The chosen type sets the CPU, memory, and performance profile of that one machine. Memory-optimized types (r3, r4, r5) give more RAM, while compute-optimized types (c3, c4, c5) favor processing.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
Hourly software charges accrue only while the instance runs. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue software charges. Underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes may still apply while the instance is stopped, but the software meter counts running hours only.
If I need more capacity, do I upgrade automatically or pick a different instance type?
You choose one instance type at launch, and it does not scale automatically. To change capacity, you deploy a different instance type. Billing then follows the hourly rate for that new type. The deployment uses a single-instance model, so you manage sizing yourself.
