Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for Ubuntu 20 LTS with a built-in health monitor, billed per running instance. The price you pay depends entirely on which EC2 instance type you launch. Each dimension maps to one AWS instance type, so software cost scales with the compute size and family you choose. Smaller shared-CPU types like t2 and t3 sit at one end, while large memory, compute, storage, GPU, and bare-metal types cost more per hour. You pick the instance that fits your workload, and billing follows that selection with no upfront commitment.

You get the Ubuntu 20 LTS image with a built-in health monitor, plus updates, firewalls, and network protocols. The hourly software charge applies per running instance. The instance type you pick sets the compute, memory, storage, or GPU resources the software runs on.
The hourly software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. Stopped instances may still incur separate AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but those are AWS charges, not this software license.
Each running instance bills separately at the rate for its type. Launching several instances adds each one to your bill. Larger instance families and sizes carry higher hourly rates than smaller shared-CPU types. Your total tracks how many instances you run and which types you choose.

ssh to the instance public IP and login as 'ubuntu' user using the key specified at launch time. Use 'sudo su -' in order to get a root prompt.
