Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen Amazon EC2 instance type. Pricing is usage-based, so charges accrue only while your instance runs. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance size, and the hourly rate scales with the instance's compute and memory capacity. Smaller instances like t3 or micro tiers cost less per hour, while larger memory-optimized, compute-optimized, and GPU-focused instances cost more. You select one instance type to match your workload, and you can resize later. The database software auto-tunes to whichever instance you choose.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each hourly unit is one running Amazon EC2 instance of your chosen type. The instance runs MySQL 8.4 LTS with InnoDB, phpMyAdmin, and SSL/TLS encryption on AlmaLinux 10. You pay the software rate for that one instance while it runs, matched to its compute and memory size.
The hourly software rate meters running time only, so a stopped instance accrues no software charge. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for the EBS data volume. When you resize to a different instance type, the new hourly rate applies, and MySQL re-tunes on the next reboot.
Billing is usage-based with no upfront commitment. You pay the hourly software rate only while your instance runs. This suits variable or intermittent workloads, since stopping the instance stops the software charge. You can start, stop, and resize at any time to control cost.

Usage instructions
- Launch the instance and wait for it to initialize (2-3 minutes).
- SSH into the instance: ssh -i your-key.pem ec2-user@<public-ip>
- View credentials: sudo cat /var/lib/mysql/credentials.txt
- Access phpMyAdmin: http://<public-ip>/phpmyadmin
- Connect to MySQL: mysql -u root -p
