AWS Well-Architected Review

The High Plains Computing Architecture team is Certified and trained to help customers incorporate AWS best practices when developing and operating applications on AWS Cloud. We use AWS's Well-Architected framework and guidelines to evaluate client applications and workload to ensure adherence to best practices. This framework is designed to build secure, high-performing, resilient, and efficient infrastructure for various applications and workloads and built around six pillars—operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, cost optimization, and sustainability. AWS Well-Architected provides a consistent approach for customers and partners to evaluate architectures and implement scalable design.

Our Well-Architected Review Process

We start reviewing a selected workload, scheduling two 2-hour review meetings, gathering information needed for cost and risk assessment, and adherence to best practices. We also provide documents to set up read-only access to the workload to verify risks. We provide a cost and risk assessment report and set up a final 1-hour meeting to present the remediation plan.

On-Demand Focus Area

Our team will go beyond the standard, well-architected review process and can exhaustively review custom apps in the special focus area. Following is an example focusing on Cost optimization for an e-commerce site.

Cost and Usage Analysis Our team analyzes workload costs and usage and provides recommendations for cost optimization to optimize workload cost-efficiently. Usage reports include CPU, memory, storage IOPS, and network bandwidth usage.

Review Existing Pricing Models We review and provide recommendations for compute instances regarding capacity reservations and savings plans. Pooling reservation capacity and unused compute power results in extensive cost savings.

Other Cost Optimization Areas We review key areas of major spending, including storage used for backups, provisioned IOPS usage, network bandwidth, and data transfer charges, to produce recommendations for optimal resource use.

Alerts and account structure We advise setting up advanced alerts, creating an AWS organization, and developing resource-sharing accounts and organizations.
