    Cloud Spend Optimisation

     Info
Data-driven AWS cloud spend optimisation — AWS Cost Explorer analysis, AWS Compute Optimizer rightsizing, Savings Plans and Reserved Instance planning, and automated cost governance using AWS Budgets and AWS Cost Anomaly Detection.

    Overview

This professional service helps customers achieve specific outcomes related to the governance and reduction of AWS Cloud spend by delivering a structured FinOps practice across AWS accounts using AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Cost and Usage Report (CUR), AWS Trusted Advisor, AWS Budgets, and AWS Cost Anomaly Detection. Each engagement begins with a spend baseline: AWS Cost and Usage Report data is analysed across AWS Organizations member accounts to decompose spend by service, account, region, and tag, surfacing untagged resources, idle compute, oversized Amazon EC2 instances, and underutilised Amazon RDS databases. AWS Trusted Advisor findings are reviewed for cost optimisation checks, and AWS Cost Anomaly Detection monitors are configured with Amazon SNS alerting to surface unexpected spend spikes in near real time before they accumulate on the monthly invoice.

Optimisation is executed across four levers. Rightsizing recommendations from AWS Compute Optimizer analyse Amazon EC2, AWS Lambda, Amazon EBS, and Amazon ECS workload utilisation metrics — including instances running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, and Ubuntu Pro 24.04 LTS available on AWS Marketplace — to produce instance type and size change recommendations backed by CPU and memory data from Amazon CloudWatch. Commitment coverage is modelled using AWS Cost Explorer Savings Plans and Reserved Instance analysis to identify where one-year or three-year commitments reduce on-demand spend, with recommendations staged to match customer procurement cycles. Storage tiering applies Amazon S3 Intelligent-Tiering to infrequently accessed object data and Amazon EBS snapshot lifecycle policies to reduce storage costs, while Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling and AWS Lambda scheduled scaling eliminate idle compute during off-peak periods. Tagging governance is enforced using AWS Config tag compliance rules and AWS Organizations service control policies to maintain cost allocation visibility as the environment grows.

Customers using this service are responsible for AWS infrastructure costs incurred in their AWS accounts — including Amazon EC2, Amazon RDS, Amazon S3, AWS Lambda, and related AWS services — separately from the service fee transacted through AWS Marketplace. This service suits organisations with monthly AWS spend above $20,000 seeking a structured FinOps programme that delivers measurable unit economics improvement, commitment coverage optimisation, and ongoing cost anomaly governance across their AWS estate.
