This workbench is tailored for researchers and data scientists, navigating the intricate world of biological data within the R ecosystem.
RStudio Server: provide an integrated development environment for R.
Comprehensive R Packages: explore a curated collection of R packages, including statistical analysis and graphical presentation of genomic data.
After the EC2 instance is started, you can access the RStudio Server with its public IP address. The default username is ruser and the password is the EC2 instance ID that has the form of i-0c7fadc4dc193eca7.
HTTPS has been enabled to ensure all data between your browser and our servers is encrypted, with all HTTP traffic now automatically redirected to HTTPS for secure communications.
The HTTPS connection uses a self-signed certificate, requiring you to accept it in your browser to proceed securely. Additionally, if the IP address changes, a new self-signed certificate will be generated, and you may need to accept the new certificate to maintain a secure connection.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Try this product free for 7 days according to the free trial terms set by the vendor. Usage-based pricing is in effect for usage beyond the free trial terms. Your free trial gets automatically converted to a paid subscription when the trial ends, but may be canceled any time before that.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour based on the AWS EC2 instance type you run. Each dimension maps to one instance size, so pricing scales with the compute, memory, and storage that instance provides. Options span general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, and high-performance families, plus burstable and metal (bare-metal) types. Smaller instances suit light workloads; larger ones handle heavier genomics analysis. The software runs the same across every instance, so your choice depends on the capacity you need. Billing is usage-based with no upfront commitment, and vendor support charges are added to the underlying open-source software.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what software comes preinstalled?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the size you select, billed per hour. The instance comes with preinstalled Bioconductor packages and a preconfigured user account. These are repackaged open-source tools, and the vendor charge adds support on top of the underlying software.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or idle?
Software charges accrue only while the instance runs. A stopped instance stops the hourly software charge. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes while stopped, but the software meter counts running hours only. There is no upfront commitment.
How do I pay more or less as my workload changes?
You do not buy separate tiers. You launch a differently sized instance to match the work. A smaller family and size costs less per hour; a larger one costs more. Switching instance type changes your rate. Running more instances at once multiplies the hourly charge across them.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Version release notes
Added Bioconductor 3.21 packages, updated R to version 4.5.0, and applied security patches.
Additional details
Usage instructions
After the EC2 instance is started, you can access the RStudio Server with its public IP address. For example, if the IP address is 10.11.12.13, typing http://10.11.12.13 in the browser will bring you to the RStudio Server login page.
The default username is ruser and the password is the EC2 instance ID that has the form of i-0c7fadc4dc193eca7.
Automatic Redirect from HTTP to HTTPS
All HTTP traffic is now automatically redirected to HTTPS, ensuring that all communications between your browser and our servers are encrypted and secure.
Self-Signed Certificate
Please note that the HTTPS connection uses a self-signed certificate. When accessing the site for the first time, you may need to accept the self-signed certificate in your browser to proceed. This step is necessary to establish a secure connection.
IP Address Changes
If the IP address changes, a new self-signed certificate will be generated. You may need to accept the new certificate in your browser to re-establish a secure connection.
