You pay by the hour for Microsoft Windows Server Core 2019 Datacenter, billed per running instance. Pricing is not tiered. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the size and family you choose. The T2 and T3 families cover burstable, smaller workloads across nano through 2xlarge sizes. The M-series families (M3, M4, M5, M5a, M5d, M5n, M5ad, M5dn) cover general-purpose workloads, scaling from large up to 24xlarge and bare-metal options. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates. You stop paying when you stop the instance.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What am I actually paying for with each hourly rate?
You pay for the software licence metered per running instance-hour. The rate is tied to the AWS EC2 instance type you select. Each dimension name matches an instance size, such as t3.large or m5.24xlarge. The underlying AWS compute and storage costs are billed by AWS separately.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
The software licence meters running time only. When you stop an instance, the hourly software charge stops. You are not billed for powered-off instances under this listing. Note that AWS may still charge for attached storage, but that is separate from the software rate here.
Can I switch between instance types to change my cost?
Yes. Each instance type is its own pricing dimension, so your rate changes when you launch a different size or family. Smaller burstable types like the T2 and T3 families carry lower hourly rates. Larger M-series sizes and bare-metal options carry higher rates. You choose the size at launch.
