Meeting modern privacy regulations and safeguarding personal information (PI) from unauthorized access requires more than just written policies or point tools - it demands a deep understanding, precise identification, and robust management of data across the entire organization.
Today, PI isn't limited to traditional databases or spreadsheets. It spans multiple repositories, applications, and file types - including messaging tools, ticketing systems, and even images. Effective governance in such a distributed environment requires purpose-built solutions tailored to each application and use case.
Enter LightBeam.
LightBeam unifies data security, privacy, and access governance, enabling organizations to protect sensitive information across cloud, SaaS, and on-premises environments. Powered by generative AI, LightBeam seamlessly integrates sensitive data cataloging, control, and compliance across structured (databases), unstructured (file repositories), and semi-structured (ticketing systems) applications - helping you confidently embark on your data protection journey.
LightBeam and Its Unique Approach to Sensitive Data Discovery
a. Data Visibility: Gain comprehensive insights into what data resides across your cloud, SaaS, or on-premises environments.
b. Data Identity: Clearly identify, cross-reference, and attribute data ownership to an identity - whose data it is - whether customer, employee, or vendor.
c. Data Access: Detect excessive, cross-departmental, or open access, and enforce policies to strictly govern who can access whose data.
AWS and LightBeam Together
LightBeam offers an AI-powered platform that integrates natively with AWS services to deliver comprehensive data security, privacy, and governance.
Key AWS integrations include:
a. Amazon Redshift: Securely analyze and manage large datasets while ensuring sensitive information within Redshift clusters remains protected and compliant.
b. Amazon S3: Identify, classify, and label sensitive data across all S3 buckets and objects, strengthening compliance and data security for stored documents.
c. Amazon RDS: Enhance the security and compliance of relational databases by safeguarding sensitive information in managed RDS instances, preserving privacy for transactional workloads.
d. Amazon Aurora: Deliver scalable, high-performance data protection for sensitive information in Aurora's advanced database environment - supporting compliance for high-demand applications.
Beyond AWS databases and storage, LightBeam extends protection to log repositories, ticketing systems, project management tools, and messaging platforms - providing a unified, enterprise-wide approach to sensitive data governance and compliance.
Highlights
- Stop Ransomware & Insider Threats in Real Time (UEBA-powered): Detect mass encryption/deletion and other anomalous behaviors immediately, then contain them before damage spreads, by using identity-aware alerts and User & Entity Behavior Analytics (UEBA) for rapid detection and response.
- Continuous Access Review & Least-Privilege Enforcement: Continuously validate and remediate file and folder permissions across your cloud and collaboration estates, pinpointing open/excessive access and proving 'access is correct' with identity-centric visibility and automated reviews.
- Risk Remediation & Data Minimization with Automated Compliance: Reduce breach and compliance exposure by automating redaction, deletion, and archival, then apply intelligent retention policies (e.g., contract dates, timestamps, keywords) to minimize the data you hold, shrinking risk and storage costs. Simplify regulatory obligations with one-click automation for DSRs, RoPA, PIAs, and Consent Management, seamlessly integrated across AWS environments.

LightBeam Deployment in New VPC
This CloudFormation template delivers the LightBeam application in a fully managed AWS environment, deployed into a dedicated, logically isolated VPC to ensure security and control. It provisions a complete network and compute infrastructure from scratch, making it ideal for customers who need a fresh, dedicated environment for running LightBeam.
The template automatically provisions the following AWS resources:
a. Virtual Private Cloud (VPC): A dedicated and logically isolated network environment for secure application hosting.
b. Public and Private Subnets: Segregated subnets to separate internet-facing resources from internal workloads.
c. Route Tables and Routes: Custom routing rules that provide secure and efficient network traffic management.
d. Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) Cluster: A fully managed Kubernetes cluster with Auto Scaling enabled, providing a scalable and resilient platform for LightBeam.
e. NAT Gateway: Enables private subnet resources to securely access the internet for updates and communications.
f. Jump VM (Bastion Host): A secure entry point that provides SSH access to the EKS cluster and LightBeam components for administration, maintenance, and debugging.
g. Elastic Load Balancer: Manages HTTPS traffic to the LightBeam user interface, ensuring secure, scalable, and highly available access.
To maximize reliability and resilience, all resources are distributed across three Availability Zones, providing built-in high availability and fault tolerance.
CloudFormation Template (CFT)
AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."
