See AWS Free Tier for more details. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you choose to run this Oracle Database 19c Enterprise image. Every dimension maps to one instance type, so pricing scales with the compute size you select. Smaller instances like t2.micro or t3.nano carry lower hourly rates. Memory-heavy, storage-heavy, GPU, and bare-metal instances carry higher rates that match their capacity. The software runs the same across all instances; only the hourly cost changes with size and family. The vendor recommends m5.large or larger for production. Software cost applies on top of standard AWS infrastructure charges.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what specs come with a given instance type?
Each dimension bills one running EC2 instance per hour, tied to that instance type's vCPU and memory. For example, m5.large provides 2 vCPU and 8 GB RAM. Larger families add more compute, memory, storage, or GPU capacity. The Oracle Database 19c Enterprise software is identical across all instance types.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software charge meters running time only. A stopped instance does not accrue software fees. You may still pay standard AWS charges for attached storage, including the root volume and the dedicated /u01 Oracle volume, while the instance is stopped.
If I switch to a larger instance type, how does my cost change?
Cost changes when you launch or resize to a different instance type. Each type carries its own hourly rate. You are billed at the rate for whichever type is running. There is no automatic upgrade; you choose the type at launch or when you resize the instance.
