AMI with CloudFormation - Globant Common ECH Solution
This AMI with CloudFormation template provides an automated, standardized, and production-ready Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solution, specifically designed for the deployment of the Globant Common ECH Solution.
The primary objective of this template is to streamline the provisioning of all the components. To achieve a successful installation and initial setup, the template automates the deployment of essential components at the operating system level, as well as the required resources at the application level. This ensures that the entire solution is deployed consistently following AWS best practices and Globant's engineering standards.
Important Engagement Note Before launching the template, the client must execute specific foundational pre-requisites at the infrastructure level. Additionally, the client must engage the Globant Commercial Team to finalize project costs and licensing agreements. To receive a precise quotation, please reach out to jose.cannistra@globant.com
CloudFormation Template (CFT)
AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."

Usage instructions
Prerequisites (complete before deploying)
- AWS Account and permissions: An active AWS account with administrator permissions to deploy CloudFormation stacks and provision the required infrastructure resources.
- Network infrastructure: A VPC configured with at minimum:
- 2 public subnets in different Availability Zones (required for the Application Load Balancers).
- 2 private subnets in different Availability Zones (recommended for future high-availability deployments).
- SAP HANA Database: A SAP HANA database instance must be installed, running, and reachable from the VPC before deploying the CloudFormation template. The ECH database user must be created in HANA prior to deployment, as the application components connect to it on startup.
Deployment steps
- Subscribe to this product and launch the CloudFormation template.
- Fill in the parameters:
- VPC ID and Subnet 1 / Subnet 2: your existing VPC and two public subnets in different AZs.
- Environment: prod for production (uses m5.xlarge), qa for testing (uses t3.large).dev for development (uses t3.medium)
- VPC ID and Subnet 1 / Subnet 2: your existing VPC and two public subnets in different AZs.
- Deploy the stack and wait for it to reach CREATE_COMPLETE.
- Note the Outputs: Bastion Host public IP and ALB DNS names.
Post-deployment
- Ensure that Network Security Groups (NSGs) are properly configured between the application servers and the SAP HANA database server. These NSG rules must be applied after the CloudFormation stack completes successfully
- Run the ECH Deployer Tool (ech-deployer-tool) to complete database initialization and generate the internal certificates required by the application.
- Access to each component through Load Balancers
External Dependencies Disclosure The solution is built on Debian EC2 instances running Tomcat, two independent Application Load Balancers. With this AMI-based deployment, all application components and scripts are pre-packaged in the AMI under /opt/ech/
