Deploy NetEdge™ VPN on AWS EC2 to leverage scalable cloud infrastructure. Install your VPN server on EC2 instances for reliable, high-performance operation. Securely provision devices using MicroEdge™ clients with unique identifiers and day-zero certificates. Establish automatic encrypted IPSec tunnels between devices and NetEdge servers without manual configuration. Centrally manage all connections, security policies, and certificates through an intuitive Web GUI or REST API. Easily scale to support thousands of devices by adding EC2 instances and implementing load balancing-all without service interruption
You can seamlessly deploy the NetEdge™ VPN server directly on Amazon Web Services by installing it on EC2 instances, leveraging AWS's scalable cloud infrastructure for high availability and reliable performance. To establish secure connections, you'll provision your devices by securely onboarding MicroEdge™ clients using unique device identifiers and day-zero certificates that ensure trusted authentication from the very first connection within your AWS environment. Once provisioned, these devices will automatically form encrypted IPSec tunnels to your NetEdge™ servers running on EC2 instances, creating secure communication channels without requiring manual intervention for each connection. For comprehensive management, you have full control to manage all tunnels, enforce security policies, and handle certificate lifecycle centrally through an intuitive Web GUI or programmable REST API, all securely accessible within your AWS VPC. As your organization grows, the system allows you to scale seamlessly to thousands of connected devices, launch additional EC2 instances across multiple Availability Zones for increased capacity and fault tolerance, and enable Elastic Load Balancing across your NetEdge server fleet-all accomplished without any service downtime or disruption to your existing VPN connections.
Highlights
Supports up to 100 concurrent MicroEdge™ VPN client connections, with automated onboarding using unique certificates and centralized key management. Devices connect securely without manual setup, ensuring scalable, policy-driven VPN connectivity across IoT, industrial, and embedded systems.
Centrally configure and monitor tunnels, routing policies, and device groups through the ControlEdge™ web console or REST API. This orchestration model simplifies VPN management by eliminating manual provisioning, reducing operational overhead, and providing full visibility into connectivity.
Expand VPN deployments seamlessly by adding additional NetEdge™ servers on cloud or on-premises infrastructure. Group servers for load balancing, failover, and geo-redundancy, ensuring resilient and highly available connectivity even in restrictive, firewall-controlled network environments.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
You pay by the hour for the compute instance that runs this IPSec VPN server, which supports up to 100 connections for edge devices. Each dimension maps to a specific instance type, so your rate depends on the instance you select, not on features. Most options are large-size compute instances across several generations and processor families, while two are medium-size general-purpose instances. All bill hourly based on runtime, letting you match instance capacity to your workload and scale up or down as needs change.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one instance-hour cover, and am I charged when the VPN server is stopped?
You pay for each hour the selected instance runs the VPN server. Charges accrue while the instance is running. A fully stopped instance stops software charges, though underlying AWS storage fees for the volume may still apply. Billing meters actual runtime only.
Does my hourly rate change if I connect fewer than 100 edge devices?
No. The rate depends only on the instance type you run, not on how many of the 100 supported connections are active. Whether you attach a handful of edge devices or the full 100, the hourly charge for that instance stays the same.
How do the large and medium instance options differ for running this VPN server?
Each dimension maps to one instance type. The large-size compute instances span several processor generations and families for steady compute. The two medium-size general-purpose instances offer a different capacity profile. All bill hourly, so you pick the instance that matches your connection load and pay only for runtime.

CloudFormation Template (CFT)
AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."
