You pay by the hour for the software running on an AWS EC2 instance. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, so pricing scales with the compute size you pick. Smaller types like t3.nano or t2.micro carry lower hourly rates. Larger types such as m5.24xlarge, x1.32xlarge, or metal instances carry higher rates because they offer more CPU, memory, storage, or GPU capacity. The software itself has no separate license fee; your hourly charge reflects your chosen instance size. Choose the type that fits your automation workload, then adjust as your needs change.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit include for a chosen EC2 instance type?
One unit is one hour of the software running on one EC2 instance of your selected type. You pay for each hour the instance runs. The rate reflects that instance's CPU, memory, storage, and any GPU capacity. There is no separate software license fee added on top.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when the instance is stopped?
The hourly software charge applies only while the instance runs. A stopped instance does not accrue the software rate. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for the attached disk while stopped, but that is separate from the software metering.
What happens to my cost if I move to a different instance type?
Your hourly rate changes to match the new instance type you select. Larger types with more CPU, memory, storage, or GPU carry higher hourly rates. Smaller types carry lower rates. You can switch types as your automation workload grows or shrinks, and billing follows the running type.
