Instead, each one maps to a specific EC2 instance size and family, from general-purpose (m3, m4, t2) to compute-optimized (c3), memory-optimized (r3, r4, cr1), storage-optimized (d2, i2, hi1, hs1), and GPU or cluster-compute options (p2, g2, cg1, cc1, cc2). You pick the instance that fits your workload, then pay the AWS hourly infrastructure rate for it.

The software has no charge, so what will actually appear on my bill for each instance type?
The software carries no license charge. You pay only the standard AWS hourly infrastructure rate for the EC2 instance type you launch. Each dimension maps to one instance size, and charges accrue per hour the instance runs. Larger instance families bill at their own AWS hourly rate.
Am I charged while my instance is stopped or idle between transcoding jobs?
The software itself has no charge in any state. AWS meters compute by running hours, so a stopped instance accrues no compute charges. Attached storage may still incur AWS storage fees while stopped. Only running time drives your hourly compute cost.
How should I choose which instance type to run for transcoding work?
Each dimension is a distinct EC2 instance type, not a feature tier. Pick based on workload needs: general-purpose families for balanced jobs, compute-optimized for CPU-heavy encoding, GPU families for accelerated transcoding. The transcoding software, REST APIs, and format support are the same across every instance choice.
