Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you run this software on. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size, from small general-purpose types up to large compute-, memory-, and storage-optimized instances and bare-metal servers. The software rate stays the same regardless of hours committed; you only pay for hours the instance runs, on top of standard AWS infrastructure charges. Larger instances carry a higher hourly software rate. Choose the instance that matches your workload's compute, memory, or throughput needs. There is no upfront commitment with this usage-based model.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The software rate meters running instance-hours only. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue software charges. You may still pay standard AWS fees for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but the software licence bills active running time.
The rate covers the NGINX Plus data plane software with the App Protect Premium security layer. This includes web application firewall protection against layer 7 attacks, denial-of-service defense, bot protection, and API security for REST, GraphQL, and gRPC. Charges apply per instance-hour regardless of which features you use.
Each instance type maps to its own hourly software rate, and larger instances carry a higher rate. Moving to a larger type raises your per-hour software charge for the new instance. The change takes effect when you run the new instance; there is no upfront commitment.

Usage instructions
When a new AMI is deployed for the first time, the latest version of NGINX Plus will be installed, auto-configured and started. NGINX Plus status can then be checked by running: service nginx status, and the NGINX Plus default index page will be accessible on public EC2 instance address. Please use SSH to access your instance for management purposes with the following usernames, for Ubuntu: "ubuntu", CentOS: "centos", Amazon Linux/RHEL: "ec2-user", Debian: "admin". NGINX Plus configuration can be found in /etc/nginx and the documentation is available at https://docs.nginx.com/nginx/ .
