Overview
Unified Origin enables you to dynamically package VOD content from one source format (MP4, fragmented MP4, or HLS) to all formats i.e. HLS (TS & CMAF), (DVB-) DASH, HbbTV, HDS, and Smooth. All major DRM systems are supported.
Dynamic packaging is the process of keeping only a single source on disk, and delivering content in a requested output format by generating that output from the source at the moment the request is received, i.e. dynamically or just-in-time. Adding encryption (and DRM) can be part of it. Everything is generated on-the-fly so a dynamic workflow allows for quick changes to the configuration of your streams because it does not require changes to the source on disk.
Unified Origin supports all the major DRM systems (Adobe Access, FairPlay, Marlin, PlayReady, and Widevine). AVC, HEVC, HDR, and Dolby Vision are all compatible.
DRM may come as pre-encrypted content, on-the-fly encryption of clear content, and trans-DRM. Trans-DRM is a unique feature allowing on-the-fly change of DRM using pre-encrypted content. Common encryption (CENC) is also supported. Both CENC and trans-DRM give flexibility to DRM and playout format.
Unified Origin supports leading audio technology, such as DTS Express, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, and HE-AAC v2, along with subtitles and captions. Adding an audio description track and subtitles or captions using TTML or WebVTT makes your content more accessible.

Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance size you run. All nine dimensions deliver the same VOD streaming software with DRM; they differ only by the underlying compute you choose. Options fall into three families (c5, c5a, and c5ad), each offered in large, xlarge, and 2xlarge sizes. Larger sizes provide more compute per hour. You are billed only for the hours you use, so cost scales with how long each instance runs and which size you select.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
You pay software charges only for hours an instance runs. Fully stopped instances do not accrue hourly software charges. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached disks, but the software licence meters running time only.
Each unit is one running hour of a single EC2 instance in the size you launch. You choose from three families (c5, c5a, c5ad) in large, xlarge, or 2xlarge sizes. Larger sizes give more compute per hour. Cost accrues per instance-hour.
Billing stays hourly for every size. Only the per-hour rate changes with the family and size you pick. All nine options run the same VOD streaming software with DRM. Your bill is the hours run multiplied by the rate for that size.
