You pay by the hour for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 running on your chosen EC2 instance. Pricing has one dimension: the EC2 instance type you launch. Each instance type carries its own hourly rate, so your cost scales with the compute size you pick. Smaller instances like t2.micro or t3.nano cost less per hour, while larger compute, memory, storage, and GPU families such as c7i, r7i, x2iedn, p5, and u-24tb1 cost more. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs. There is no upfront commitment or fixed term.

What does the hourly rate for each EC2 instance type actually cover?
The rate covers the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 software licence for that instance type. You pay this hourly software charge on top of the underlying AWS EC2 compute cost. Each instance type has its own hourly software rate, tied to the size and family you launch.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software charge meters running hours only. A stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes while the instance is stopped, but the software licence bills active running time.
How does my bill change if I switch to a larger instance type?
Cost tracks the instance type you run. Moving to a larger compute, memory, storage, or GPU family raises the hourly software rate. You are billed at the new rate only for the hours that instance runs. Switching back lowers the rate immediately, with no commitment.
