If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for this software, billed per running instance. The twelve dimensions match different EC2 instance types, so your rate depends on the instance size you choose. Smaller options like the nano and micro types carry lower compute capacity, while the small and medium types offer more. This is the Developer edition, running on RHEL 9. You select the instance type that fits your workload, and hourly software charges apply only while the instance runs. There are no tiers or upfront commitments; pricing scales with the instance size and hours of use.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing represent for these instance dimensions?
Each dimension meters one running EC2 instance of that type per hour. You are charged for every clock hour the instance runs, regardless of traffic volume or requests processed. Choosing a larger instance type raises the hourly software rate, since it maps to more compute capacity.
Am I charged the hourly software fee when my instance is stopped?
Software charges apply only while the instance runs. A fully stopped instance stops accruing the hourly software fee. Note that AWS may still bill underlying storage for a stopped instance, but the software license meters running hours only.
What security capability does the App Protect component add to this NGINX Plus edition?
This edition bundles a web application firewall with NGINX Plus. It adds layer 7 protections, bot defense, and coverage for common web application threats. It also supports securing REST, GraphQL, and gRPC APIs. This is the Developer edition, intended for development and testing rather than production scale.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
When a new AMI is deployed for the first time, the latest version of NGINX Plus will be installed, auto-configured and started. NGINX Plus status can then be checked by running: service nginx status, and the NGINX Plus default index page will be accessible on public EC2 instance address. Please use SSH to access your instance for management purposes with the following usernames, for Ubuntu: "ubuntu", CentOS: "centos", Amazon Linux/RHEL: "ec2-user", Debian: "admin". NGINX Plus configuration can be found in /etc/nginx and the documentation is available at https://docs.nginx.com/nginx/.
Documentation is located at: https://docs.nginx.com/waf/. Technical Support is not available for NGINX Plus developer instances.
