Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance size you run. Each dimension maps to a specific instance type across the t2, t3, m3, and m4 families. Larger instances carry a higher hourly rate, so your cost scales with the compute capacity you choose. You pick the instance that fits your workload, and billing follows actual usage hours. There are no upfront commitments or fixed terms. The hourly charge bundles the Ubuntu 22.04 image together with support from Hossted for your open-source applications running on the instance.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit map to for billing?
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance running for one hour. The instance families range from t2 and t3 burstable types to m3 and m4 general-purpose types. You are billed for each hour that instance runs, matched to the type you selected at launch.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
The hourly software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue this charge. Underlying AWS storage fees may still apply while the instance is stopped, but the Ubuntu image and Hossted support charge follows active running hours.
What is included in the hourly charge besides the operating system?
The charge bundles the Ubuntu 22.04 image with support from Hossted for open-source applications on the instance. Support covers troubleshooting, usage guidance, and issue resolution. You reach the team through tickets, email, and portal channels for your open-source software running on the instance.
