You pay by the hour for the software running on an Amazon EC2 instance. There is no upfront commitment or fixed term. Pricing scales with the instance type you choose. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance size, from small shared instances up to large memory, compute, storage, and GPU-optimized options, including bare metal. Larger instances offer more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware and carry higher hourly rates. You select the instance that fits your workload. Your total cost depends on which instance you run and how many hours you run it.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate cover, and what does one instance-hour include for billing?
You pay for the running software on one EC2 instance, billed per hour it runs. The rate depends on the instance type you pick. One instance-hour means one hour that a single instance stays running. Stopped or terminated instances stop accruing software charges.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped, and how does cost change if I resize?
Software charges apply only while an instance runs. A stopped instance accrues no software charge, though AWS storage fees may still apply. If you switch to a different instance type, your hourly rate changes to match that type. There is no upfront commitment or term.
Do I need a GPU instance to run the penetration testing tools, or will smaller instances work?
The image ships with over 2,800 security tools preinstalled and accessible via a VNC client. Smaller shared instances run the environment for general testing. GPU-optimized instances suit workloads that benefit from graphics or parallel processing. You choose the instance type that fits your needs.
