You pay by the hour for SUSE Linux Enterprise Micro 5 running on ARM64-based Amazon EC2 instances. The software charge attaches to whichever EC2 instance type you launch. Each dimension maps to a specific ARM64 instance size, so pricing scales with the compute you choose. Smaller instances such as medium and large sizes carry lower hourly rates, while larger multi-xlarge and bare-metal instances carry higher rates. Instance families span general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and high-performance-computing options. You select the instance that fits your workload, and the hourly software fee applies on top of standard AWS EC2 charges.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and how is it counted for billing?
Each unit is one running ARM64 Amazon EC2 instance of the size named in the dimension. The software fee meters per instance-hour. Each launched instance counts on its own. Running several instances multiplies the fee by the number of instances, each billed at its matching rate.
Am I charged the software fee when an instance is stopped or powered off?
The hourly software fee meters running time only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing the software charge. You may still owe standard AWS charges for attached storage while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
If I move a workload to a different instance size, how does my cost change?
The software fee attaches to the specific instance type you launch. Switching to a different size changes the applicable hourly rate to that size's rate. There is no automatic tier upgrade; the rate simply follows whichever instance you run at the time.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Use the image to start an instance of your choice in Amazon EC2. Once the instance is running connect to it using a Secure Shell (SSH) client as 'suse' and the configured SSH key. The instance is connected to the SUSE update infrastructure to receive updates. Use the transactional-update command to update the system or install additional packages.
In order to provide you with support for your SLE Micro instance, you need to first generate and upload your instance's supportconfig file. See the Marketplace Support Page in SUSE Customer Center for more information on how to create a supportconfig file and follow the prompts.
