Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size you run. All twelve options bill the same way, so pricing scales with the compute size you pick. The t2 family (t2.medium, t2.large, t2.xlarge, t2.2xlarge) covers general-purpose instances. The t3 and t3a families (medium, large, xlarge, 2xlarge each) add newer generation compute. Within each family, larger sizes carry more CPU and memory and a higher hourly rate. You run the same secured NextCloud image on any size, then adjust as your workload grows or shrinks.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each option maps to one running EC2 virtual machine of that size. Larger sizes carry more CPU and memory. The instance runs a preconfigured NextCloud image secured with an Nginx reverse proxy on an immutable, auto-updating CoreOS-based operating system with firewall and audit monitoring.
The hourly software fee meters running time, so a stopped instance stops accruing that charge. You pay only for the hours the instance runs. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached disks, which are separate from this software charge.
You pay the hourly rate tied to the size currently running. Moving to a size with more CPU and memory raises the hourly rate; moving to a smaller size lowers it. The change applies from the hour the new size runs. You run the same secured image on any size.
