Needletail: Data Integration & Analytic Process Automation Platform
You pay by the hour based on the AWS EC2 instance type you run Needletail on. The five options — m4.xlarge, t3.xlarge, m5.xlarge, t2.xlarge, and m5a.xlarge — are compute sizes, not feature tiers. Each carries its own hourly software rate, so your cost scales with how long you keep an instance running and which instance you pick. All options deliver the same data integration platform; the choice reflects the underlying compute family and performance profile you prefer. There is no upfront commitment, and billing tracks actual runtime.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing cover for a chosen instance type like m5.xlarge?
You are billed one software rate per hour that the Needletail instance runs on that EC2 instance type. Each instance size carries its own hourly rate. The unit measures actual runtime, so an instance running one hour incurs one hour of the software charge for that type.
Am I charged when my Needletail instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software charge meters running time only. A stopped instance does not accrue the software rate. Note that underlying AWS resources, such as storage attached to a stopped instance, may still incur separate AWS fees billed by AWS, not by the software rate.
Does switching to a different instance type change my software cost?
Yes. Each of the five instance types — m4.xlarge, t3.xlarge, m5.xlarge, t2.xlarge, m5a.xlarge — has its own hourly software rate. If you move Needletail to a different instance type, your hourly charge follows that type's rate. The platform capabilities stay the same across all options.

The Needletail CloudFormation template automates the deployment of the Needletail Analytic Process Automation Platform in AWS. It provisions essential infrastructure components such as networking, compute, storage, security, and email configuration. The template deploys Needletail on a EC2 instance.
Note: This template grants AmazonS3FullAccess, AmazonSESFullAccess, and AmazonSNSFullAccess. Customers must adjust these policies as per their organization's security requirements. Alternatively, Customers can consider deploying Needletail into a new AWS account. (Refer to section 4.2 of the Deployment Guide)
CloudFormation Template (CFT)
AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."
AWS Support is a one-on-one, fast-response support channel that is staffed 24x7x365 with experienced and technical support engineers. The service helps customers of all sizes and technical abilities to successfully utilize the products and features provided by Amazon Web Services.
